Napoli e New York, Julia Kent e Barbara De Dominicis. Cosi' lontane, cosi' vicine.
Dieci mesi di registrazioni musicali, un viaggio alla scoperta di posti e sonorita' che si intersecano all'ambiente.
Barbara e Julia sono due musiciste speciali, due "sperimentatrici classiche" viene da dire. Insieme hanno deciso di improvvisare in luoghi che potessero aggiungere un carattere sonoro alle registrazioni, aggiungere con il loro ambiente una "voce" alle tracce.
Paesaggi unici e forse, ci piace pensare, anche un po' "magici". Forte Marghera, Bolzano, Valdapozzo, Napoli.
Le prime improvvisazioni diventano subito una prova che nella musica le differenze sociali e culturali scompaiono, per lasciar spazio ad una lingua che unisce, che fa sintesi, che avvicina. Anche questo e' musica, fare musica.
Il nome del loro progetto diventa Parallel 41 (il parallelo che unisce New York e Napoli). Il paesaggio e' una linea spezzata mai del tutto disegnata, solo pensata, sognata forse, in realta' sulle mappe esiste, ad indicare una linea immaginaria, senza punto di partenza senza alcun arrivo.
Vengono rappresentati nel film 4 set di improvvisazione e un intervista che mette a confronto sensazioni e riflessioni delle protagoniste sull'esperienza vissuta nell'arco dei dieci mesi di lavorazione.
Il Progetto musicale Parallel 41 e' anche un gruppo che porta in tour questa esperienza.

Faraway close…perhaps fundamentally we all are, regardless of language or appearance. Barbara De Dominicis and Julia Kent, though they come from distant and diverse worlds, divided by an ocean, by air, by difficult conjunctions and different rhythms, are much closer than it might seem.
Faraway close essentially tells the story of a musical journey, but also plays with the notion of meeting in sonic space. Here the music becomes an environment, where improvising means to test and discover oneself — to talk, communicating more closely than through language. Distances disappear, and the miracle of form is created, only in that moment, and only in that place. The camera follows them, listens to them, captures them silently, searching for that subtle link, that parallel.
The film unfolds over the course of 10 months, during which the duo perform concerts and also confront the natural sounds of special, almost magical places, environments that inspire improvisation and contribute their own sound-breath, whether that of water or leaves, stone or wood.
Valdapozzo is a farmhouse nestled in the rolling and slow hills located in the vicinity of Alessandria (PimontValleys). Much more than just a real space it represents an artists' meeting place, a sort of free zone. Immersed in an isolated and warm atmosphere: the sounds of nature blended with electronics, voice and cello within the slow change of seasons , in harmony with the hum of wasps and the chirping of crickets...Still an idea of peace and serenity impressed in the memory of that landscape; friends who have assisted and listened to the recording sessions, friends whom shared with us the idea of this project at its early stages...

Valdapozzo e' una cascina immersa nelle dolci e lente colline dell'alessandrino. Piu' che un luogo reale, e' un punto di ritrovo per artisti, uno spazio comune.
Nell'atmosfera isolata e calda che offre, i suoni della natura, nel lento mutare di stagione si sono miscelati con l'elettronica, con la voce e con il violoncello in armonia con il ronzio delle vespe e il frinire dei grilli. Resta un'idea di pace e di serenita' ancora oggi nel ricordo di quel paesaggio, degli amici che hanno ascoltato le registrazioni, che hanno condiviso con noi il progetto nella sua fase iniziale.
